Lab Manager

IGM Biosciences is a leading biotechnology start-up company, focused on therapeutic IgM antibodies for treatment of cancer.  Our proprietary platform of high avidity, engineered human or humanized IgM antibodies utilizes novel mechanisms of action that specifically target cell types involved in disease pathways.  We are building a strong pipeline of biologic drug candidates for oncology and immunology diseases.

We are seeking a reliable and highly-motivated Lab Manager to play a vital role in maintaining the overall organization, conduct and safety of the laboratories.  This person will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the laboratories.  We are seeking a manager to help the company set up quality systems as the company continues research and development of IgM antibodies and gears towards quality control and small scale GLP manufacturing.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lab Operations & Safety Compliance

  • Maintain organization and smooth operation within the laboratories
  • Create and enforce operating procedures in all laboratories
  • Ensure compliance with lab safety regulations and correct deviations
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Manual
  • Familiar with GLP and GMP procedures
  • Managing hazardous waste disposals
  • Conduct safety training of new laboratory personnel, annual re-train of existing laboratory staff
  • Serve as liaison between scientists and building facilities team to ensure clear communication
  • Support moving of labs to new location, and oversee start-up of labs in the new locations
  • Update and maintain the company’s Facilities Information and Hazardous Materials Inventory (CERS) submittal with Santa Clara County.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Schedule and oversee maintenance and calibration of equipment/instruments
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for any equipment failures and alarms
  • Manage the equipment inventory
  • Negotiate pricing for equipment and service agreements

Qualifications Include:

  • B.S. degree in a science discipline
  • Work history in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry
  • Prior experience managing a lab is strongly desired
  • Familiarity with research laboratory and EHS/OSHA requirements
  • Strong motivation, independence, and ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Self-starter with strong sense of ownership of work
  • Customer service centered attitude
  • Self-motivated, with strong organizational skills
  • Careful attention to detail, accountable for results
  • Excellent communication skills
